Welcome to Word Wise, which is my freelance writing and editing business.

I have had 16 years of experience as a professional writer, editor and proofreader, which includes corporate publishing and communication services as well as freelance writing and editing. I have an extensive portfolio of published work and I write, copy edit and proofread a range of articles, journals, reports, websites, book manuscripts and other documents.

My background

I have a secondary school teaching background and also years of experience in sales and marketing roles. Word Wise began in 2008, when I decided to quit my marketing job and do what I loved, which was to write, read and edit. I started writing my first novel, went ‘back to school’ to do a Diploma of Writing and Editing, and got a job with a corporate publisher. Since then, I haven’t looked back!

My background of teaching and business marketing combines really well with my writing and editing skills and experience. The whole lot mixed together makes me a versatile writer and editor, and I love tackling new topics and learning new things.

I’ve worked on a huge variety of articles, reports, technical guides, academic research articles, small business websites, textbooks, fiction manuscripts and other documents. My clients include industry organisations, government departments, small businesses, educational resource publishers, training program providers, and advertising and marketing companies.

Fiction writing

For fun, I write and publish novels through Amazon under the pen-name Maggie McGuinness. Details are on my Amazon author page.
